About Mukilteo Community Center Exhibition

Hello Everyone!

I created this website to share pictures of paintings with my family members and friends who live too far away to come and see my paintings at the Mukilteo Community Center in Mukilteo (20 mile north of Seattle), Washington, USA where I live.

Below is a brief explanation of how it all started and how I came about having this first-time-nerve-crashing-solo-show with medium so exquisite and delicate…..

It started with an egg.

Not this specific egg in the picture above, but just an ordinary hen’s egg.

Going way back to my grammar school days….

I had to carry one fresh (not boiled) egg when I had an art class.  The path to school was uneven through the rice paddies and up the hill and across the brook, just to arrive at the school supply store with my feet wet and muddy.  So I could exchange it with a sheet of white drawing paper.  I have never broken one!

Close your eyes and imagine!  So cool to the touch, so slippery like silk, so white just like the color of egg, so frightfully fragile, and so unforgiving for I had only one chance.

So my interest grew and my dream hatched.  But alas, art is not a proper profession to make a living, so I was told, especially in the third world country.  So, instead, I studied applied art, but I still could not make a living.  A big question remained.  What kind of job would supply me with plenty of paint and paper?  So a quest to find a means to purchase plenty of art supply began!

Now fast forwarding from the egg carrying days….

I started teaching at the Mukilteo Community Center four years ago.  While teaching, I entered the juried art competition and was lucky to have been selected among others.  For the next 2 years the preparation began and now the show is on!

So you see, it all started with the egg!

After the show…..

I am wiring this note on September 13, 2015.  My exhibition has been wonderful with lots of friends and passerby enjoying my paintings for the three month duration.

Leading up to the event…. Not being able to decide whether to sell the paintings or not, even through the night before the opening night, I pulled most of my hair out not knowing what to do….. then, I finally decided to sell portion of them, following the advice from my son, who said, “mom, if you sell the paintings, you would want to paint better because your friends would expect better paintings from you next time; besides, they will enjoy ‘part of you’ in their homes…. So I did, and the response was amazing.  Almost all the paintings that I had chosen to sell were sold.  And requests came asking if I would want to sell the others…. but I kept some to keep me company.

So, for those who puchased my paintings, I thank you with much gratitude.

Now that the fall has arrived, I started to teach again.  I hope my paingings inspire some of you thinking about painting or perhaps pick up a pencil and sketch book and sit quietly somewhere beautiful to doodle, just start a line and then make a loop to vaguely resemble a passing dragonfly…..
