My name is Hyeh-Yeon (pronounced Hey-Yon) and I was born and raised in South Korea. While growing up in a small village where there were no running water and electricity, I used to dream of becoming a painter.  I scribbled newly hatched chicks, piglets, frogs, flowers, trees, oxen, trains (which I had never seen in real life), and dreamed of traveling to all the intoxicating places someday.  My canvas was unlimited dirt ground and medium ever so abundant sticks!

Now my medium consists of ‘rice’ paper, which is no longer economical compared to the dirt ground, magical animal-hair brushes morphed from sticks, and freshly ground ink made from pine soot.  My subject matter still remains the same except piglets and oxen, but added mountains, rivers, sailboats, and airplanes.
